Wi-fi pioneers could keep the roads clear (Coventry Telegraph, Jun 10): "A PIONEERING project involving Coventry University Enterprises could be used to ease traffic congestion." Read more

Montreal to get first self-serve bike rental system (Canada.com, Jun 10): "North America's first self-serve bike rental system will enter its pilot phase by September, says André Lavalée, Montreal's executive committee member in charge of transportation." Read more

Ford helps to untangle gridlocks (Detroit Free Press, Jun 12): "Ford Urban Mobility Networks, a pilot program led by Ford Motor Co. and the University of Michigan to explore ways to deal with congestion and urban gridlock as more people around the globe cluster in and around mega-cities." Can we trust our GPS devices? (ZDNet, Jun 10): "In recent years, we have become increasingly dependent on applications using the Global Positioning System (GPS), such as railway control, highway traffic management, emergency response or commercial aviation. But in a very short news release, the American Geophysical Union (AGU) warns us that we can’t always trust our GPS gadgets because ‘electrical activity in the upper atmospheric zone called the ionosphere can tamper with signals from GPS satellites.’" Read more

Dramatic differences in cost of toll road tags (Ireland Independent, Jun 7): "As the panel above indicates, there are dramatic differences in the prices charged by the eight companies who will supply the tags for all of Ireland's tolled roads." Read more

IBM Continues to Help City of Stockholm Significantly Reduce Inner City Road Traffic (CNN Money, Jun 10): "The Stockholm Congestion Charging System, rolled out in August last year following a successful pilot, has reduced traffic in the Swedish capital by 18 percent, and the proportion of green, tax-exempt vehicles has risen to 9 percent." ICx Wins $15.6 Million Contract for Intelligent Transportation System for California’s Orange County Transportation Authority (ITS America, Jun 10): "ICx Transportation, a business unit of ICx Technologies, announced today that it will manage the technology portion of a multi-million-dollar 'Bus Rapid Transit' transportation upgrade project administered by the Orange County Transportation Authority (OCTA) in California."
