GPS gadgets can reveal more than your location (New Scientist, Jun 3): "We know GPS gadgets can tell where you are. But researchers at Microsoft are developing ways for them to know what you are doing too – even down to which mode of transport you use to get to work." Read more
Intelligent vehicle systems to be tested across Europe (ERTICO, Jun 5): "Supported by the European Commission 7 th Framework Programme of Information Society Technologies, the euroFOT integrated project has officially been launched in May." Read more

Regional Tolls: Socially Responsible User Fees Earmarked for the Funding of Public Transit (CNW Group, Jun 5): "During a speech today to members of the Association québécoise du transport et des routes (AQTR), André Lavallée, Montréal Executive Committee member responsible for Urban Planning and Public Transit, launched the discussion on funding for public transit by proposing a new approach. It would consist of establishing a regional toll collection system, the revenues of which would be shared among the municipalities to finance their own contributions to the development and to operate local and regional public transit and active transportation projects." Logica builds wireless intelligent freight system with European Commission (Computer Weekly, Jun 3): "Logica is building an intelligent wireless cargo system for secure freight transportation in Europe with European Commission funding." Read more
T-Systems Receives Telematics Award for 2008 (Earth Times, Jun 5): "T-Systems, the business customer unit of Deutsche Telekom, won the Telematics Award for 2008 for its intelligent Tracking Management (iTM) goods tracking solution. T-Systems' solution was named the 'best telematics service and application for commercial vehicles' during Telematics Detroit 2008, the largest telematics meeting worldwide." Read more

Autonet Mobile Wins Industry Newcomer Award from Telematics Update Magazine (Centre Daily Times, Jun 2): "Autonet Mobile, the first wireless Internet service provider for vehicles, has received the Industry Newcomer Award from Telematics Update Magazine. Autonet Mobile turns the car into a WiFi hotspot allowing passengers to access all their favorite websites such as Google, Yahoo, Facebook, YouTube as well as on-line games while in their cars and on the road." An Electronic Leash for Teen Drivers (Nashville Channel 5, Jun 5): "Brian Aladesuyi, 17, of Kennesaw, Ga., took his father's new gold Jeep Liberty out for a spin, went farther from home than he was supposed to, and sped. But he figured his dad would never know because he was away on a business trip - in Sao Paolo, Brazil." Read more

MOTC to launch advanced traffic system by year-end (Taipei Times, Jun 2): "The Ministry of Transportation and Communications is launching a NT$5 billion (US$164.4 million) intelligent transportation system at the end of the year to facilitate smooth traffic on freeways and expressways." Read more

Google Maps mobile gets updated in celebration of $5 gas (Webware, Jun 5): "Google Maps updated with public transit information and routing back in mid-2007, but missing was a way to access that same layer of information on your mobile phone. Today that's changed with the latest version of Google's mobile maps app." Read more
