Digital rego to track road users (Australian IT, Apr 1): "AUSTRALIA'S states and territories have begun exploring the use of digital vehicle registration tags, using technology similar to electronic toll collection systems." Read more
Plan announced to build drivers' research and development centre (ETA, Apr 2): "Plans have been announced for a transport technology research and development (R&D) 'centre of excellence' in the UK. The venture aims to build a centre where controlled studies can be carried out in areas such as traffic management and vehicle technologies including adaptive calibration, in an attempt to improve environmental efficiency and reduce traffic congestion." 'HOT' lanes wide open to solo drivers -- for a price (Seattle Post-Intelligencer, Apr 2): "This month will see a first in the Puget Sound area's transportation system: Solo drivers will be able to use the car pool lanes on state Route 167 without getting a ticket -- if they pay for the privilege."
